Mixing romance with work
I work alongside a co-worker about whom I’ve started to fantasize. She lights up whenever we talk and I know she’s on the outs with her current boyfriend. I’d like to ask her out, but if she says “no” or if we get it on and then have a falling out, I’m worried about the repercussions. How do I tell her how I feel without it making a big mess?
When you mix romance with work, you take a risk. If you ask your co-worker out, she’ll either be flattered or find it awkward. If the former, you’ll have a potential new romance. If the latter, apologize and ask, “Can we just hit the erase button on this?” Then, return to treating her with casual co-worker friendliness until you and she move past the fact that you felt an attraction she doesn’t feel comfortable reciprocating.
Finally, when office romances sour, repercussions happen. Only you can decide if the risk is worth it.
